Thanks for posting that. I had no idea the monks had THAT much control. Seems to me like it would be a great weight loss technique. I mean, it's got to burn calories heating your body up like that, don't you think?
You're very welcome! I agree.. Benson et al, (1990)show that meditation can raise resting metabolism up to 61% and lower it down to 64%. The raising of the metabolism would in turn burn a greater amount of calories. Interestingly, green tea also has the ability of raising the metabolism. A monk's lifestyle is very conducive to healthy living, although, they may not appear 'fit' at first glance to a westerner (where our idea of 'fit' consists of gyms, supplements, and 'workout' equipment)
